Educational Background
Zander’s educational journey started at Sir John Lawes School between 2003 and 2008, where he undertook his GCSE studies. He played for Norwich City FC Academy and was a straight-A student. Thereafter, he joined Harrow School for his high school studies and also earned himself straight As. He was awarded an Outstanding Talent Scholarship by Harrow School.
He then joined the University of Oxford, earning his bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts. It was at Oxford that he broadened his creative and innovative spectrum. Between 2013 and 2014, Zander earned his Master’s degree in Computer Science at New York University.
Career
Zander’s first career1 step came in June 2014, when he was employed as a UX designer by AND Digital and served in the role until November 2015. He was tasked with several activities, including developing a crowdfunding platform for Argos using Angular and Node.
Thereafter, he was hired by Yieldify in December 2015 as a product designer, where he was tasked with designing, prototyping, and developing Yieldify’s latest products. In September 2016, he became the first UX designer to join Hotjar, where he worked until May 2018.
While at Hotjar, he conducted user research and testing as well as rapid prototyping using Angular, HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap. From April 2018 to September 2020, Zander worked as the lead product designer for |= Eedi, where he collaborated with the product team to research, design, and test the company’s mobile and web learning products.
The Founding of Memorisely
In October 2020, Zander founded Memorisely2, a remote UX/UI Bootcamp that is known for bringing together 10 designers from all around the world and making them learn and live together. At Memorisely, he educated designers in the latest remote workflows and tools, making learning about UX/UI affordable and accessible for everyone.
As the sole founder, he has revealed that he prioritizes scaling the company’s sustainability, which he does with the help of a community of over 1900 UX/UI designers based in 91 countries.
Personal Life
Zander Whitehurst is married to his beautiful wife, Lucy Pinkney, who is half-Australian. He has revealed that Lucy convinced him to start working remotely. In a heartwarming Instagram post, Zander shared his thoughts about his wife. The post read:
I’m super proud of Lucy who is pretty shy naturally, still asleep in fact so doubt she’ll be delighted with this, but she has started her own Interior Design Studio @pinkneyinteriors – Amazingly she already has two clients in London. I know how much it takes to start your own business from scratch, and I’ve got 100000% confidence in her!
